Water Color Class

I've re-discovered water color, and I'm lovin' it! Last week I held my first ever technique class, choosing watercolor for the projects. I decided to demo two different types. I found the class on our SU website, and the card layout on Sudsol. The first was basic water color using the crayons and pencils with the aqua painter which I dubbed "Color Book Technique". Wagon Full of Fun from the Occasions Mini is perfect for beginners. Their first project was a Pizza Box and four 3x3 cards. Each card involved using a different medium or combination of mediums, and light to dark or left to right shading.

The second project involved layering on color for shading and highlighting, using ink pads, markers and blender pen. I cased this card from Sandi McIver using Soft Summer from the occasions mini.

Recipes:

Pizza Box: Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Tempting Tourquoise Card Stock, Water Color Paper, Earth Elements and Soft Subtles Water Color Crayons, Water Color Pencils, Stampin' Write Markers, 5/8 inch So Saffron Grograin Ribbon, Stampin Dimensionals, and Scor-Pal

Soft Summer Card: Confetti White, Regal Rose Card Stock, Water Color Paper, Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, Summer Sun, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Always Artichoke Classic Ink Pads and Stampin' Write Markers, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon (retired)

Fabulous Demo Resource

I recently came across a web site by Linda Aarhus that has awesome information for SU demos! She is very organized!

Here is a copy and paste from her frequently answered questions -
Q. What is the price to use ideas from this site?
A. You can download anything and everything for free! Ideas are priceless.

Although she has some pay-for services, her posted ideas are free for us to use!!!I was impressed! I have no clue who she is and have never spoken with her...wonder if she will notice an increase in traffic??!!

Some of the information you will find:
  • This page details how she preps and runs her classes - very detailed and informative
  • She tells about her kits HERE.
  • HERE is the link to her home page - have a look around - awesome!
Happy Looking!

Bleached Scene

This is the card I did with my club yesterday. We stamped the Garden Scene with VersaMark, clear embossed and then used a small brush to "color" with bleach. It was definitely a Wow!

Thanks for looking!

Wedding Invites & Miscellaneous

We have been working very hard, my friend and I, to complete her save the dates, wedding invites, thank you cards and reception favors. Riding Hood Red is very close to the dresses that her bridesmaids will be wearing. She is accenting with Chocolate Chip and the Naturals Ivory is very close to her wedding dress. She has pearls and lace on her dress so we added as much detail with punches and pearls that we could. The invitation isn't a final copy but I couldn't wait to share what we had done. There is actually an image stamped behind the circle scallop but it isn't on the invites that are being mailed. On the back of the party favor is a heart punched out of Riding Hood Red and stamped with the With Love stamp from the Yummy sale-a-bration stamp. I can't help but get excited when I can help someone create beautiful projects that help make their wedding day come true! Happy stamping!

Manhattan Flower Die

I love the Textured Impressions Die! I hope they come out with lots more of these. Of course, I also had to purchase the matching stamp set, Fifth Avenue Floral. These are among my favorites in the Spring & Summer Catalog. For this card I used Basic Gray and Pink Pirouette Cardstock and White Craft Ink. That's it! Couldn't be much easier and yet look so elegant.

Mom's Brag Book

A friend of mine approached me about helping her host a playgroup activity for her mom's group. She was hoping to do something that could be given as a Mother's Day gift and requested a 3-D project of some sort along with a Mother's Day card. The clencher: it needed to be something that a 3-year-old could make with help from his/her mom but that an 8-year-old would enjoy making as well.

I decided to go with a brag book because everyone needs someplace to keep pictures of their adorable little ones! Each book holds 10 photos. The pages inside are made from SU!'s clear translucent envelopes...5 of them in a pile and stuck together by their flaps. The flap on top is then attached to the card stock cover. The brads are of greatest necessity as the flaps, of course, can be pulled apart at any time. I decided to offer the two different covers so they would appeal to parents of both boys and girls, but to keep it simple, the layout is exactly the same. I am allowing each mom in attendance to make a maximum of two sets of projects. Five moms signed up before I even shared a picture of the brag books with them and three others passed along their hopes that we'd offer more classes like this in the future. I'm so excited about the possibilities!

Top brag book: Flight of the Butterfly stamp set, Barely Banana, Regal Rose, Taken with Teal and Kiwi Kiss card stock and classic stampin' pads, Whisper White card stock, 1" and 1-1/4" circle punches, gold brads, crafter's tool kit, clear envelopes

Bottom brag book: Bugs and Kisses stamp set, Brilliant Blue, Real Red, and Glorious Green card stock and classic stampin' pads, Whisper White card stock, Yoyo Yellow and Basic Black classic stampin' pads, large oval and scallop oval punches, gold brads, crafter's tool kit, clear envelopes

Sweet Always Class

As promised, here are the remaining five projects that were featured at my Sweet Always class that was held earlier this week.

This card was designed to satisfy those people who hate it when they have to choose one side of the paper over the other -- do any of you fall into that category? The flower from Doodle This was embossed with white EP and the center of the flower is a Pink Fire Rhinestone Brad.

These two cards don't get much simpler. The one on the far left takes less than 5 minutes to make, including cutting out the card stock! Everyone needs a quick and elegant card at a moment's notice. And with the help of the Sweetest Stem Embosslit and my Big Shot, the wishes card takes just a few minutes to assemble as well. I just love how the Sweetest Stem looks on that designer paper.

And last but not least are these two cards which most certainly cannot be completed in five minutes...but they're cute nonetheless! Before you all start asking about the fold used to make the flower, grab your October 2008 Stampin' Success and turn to page 8. The only thing you need to be able to do is follow the instructions provided by SU! =)
